~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome!
This is Part 3 of a 3 part workshop. It would be wise to at least go
through Part 1 & Part 2 once before you work this one. But it's
plenty powerful on its own! But there are far less instructions
in this one because Part 1 covers all the "How Tos".
This one is a KILLER! And you'll get a solid stretching workout!
(I sounds like my Martial Arts Sensei! LOL)
Part 1 teaches you the permutations, or combinatins. Part 2 is for
players who seriously want to S T R E T C H their span! And this one,
Part 3 is for players who want super speed, super dexterity, strong
hands and fingers. And for players who want to play chords and licks,
scales, solos, and HIT THE TARGETS every time!
Part 3 is a combination of 1 & 2, PLUS . . . The Shake!
Between the 16th and 20th centuries, what we call TRILLS today were
called "The Shake"! And we're going to incorporate trills into the
basic finger exersizes you should already be doing every practice
session as a warm up before you do ANYTHING else! These exercises
below will now take their place. Or at lease, alternate between
them. Once day do the regular exercises. The other days . . .
Add The Shake!
Trills sound like this . . .
OK, that's it for the chatting. Let's work out!
Sounds simple, right? But there's a catch!
The S T R E T C H ! It looks like this!
NOTE: When you stretch a finger to the next fret, let your other fingers move
naturally. But try to keep finger 1 ON/pressing the 1st fret. As in, STRETCH to
reach the forward notes as much as you can.
It also helps to shift your thumb so it's about in the middle, between
fingers 2 and 3. And keep it behind the neck! No Blues Grips!
Finger 2 plays F#, stretches to the next fret and plays G, then back to F#
Finger 3 plays G, stretches to the next fret and plays G#, then back to G
Finger 4 plays G#, stretches to the next fret and plays A, then back to G#
Thus, the name Spider S T R E T C H !
Play it like this, one count on each note.
Open E
F 1st fret finger 1
F# 2nd fret finger 2
G stretch your 2nd finger and play 3rd fret!
F# 2nd fret, slide your finger back to fret 2
G 3rd fret finger 3
G# stretch your 3rd finger and play 4th fret!
G 3rd fret, slide your finger back to fret 3
G# 4th fret finger 4
A stretch your 4th finger and play 5th fret!
G# 4th fret, slide your finger back to fret 4
A stretch your 4th finger and play 5th fret and hold it.
Then, play it in reverse. G# A G# ~ G G# G ~ F# G F# ~ F E
DO NOT PLAY IT STRAIGHT! It's not the "notes" that are important!
Here’s the download link for the CHART, and the audio files.
It's a ZIP file. Download it to a folder that's handy! You'll
be in the folder a lot! Until you have the pattern down pat,
and don't need the files!
