Pentatonic Master Class Workshop
for Keyboard and Horn players!

Part 1: Playing each position separately

~
~ Learn'm! ~
~

This is a WORKSHOP! Once you start it, you STAY ON IT for 90 DAYS!
The workshop becomes your DAILY ROUTINE! You can still work on
whatever you usually work on. But . . . most of your practice routine, every
day, will be The Workshop!

If you're RETURNING, if you read the intro before, you can go
directly to the workout section! But don't skip this intro!!!
You NEED to read it ONCE!
Click here to go to workout section!

Once you complete the workshop, EVERYTHING you play, from that day
forward, will have improved! Invest 90 days, be a better player for life!

This workshop essentially focuses on keyboards and horns. The exercises
apply to ALL instruments! You just need to know where the notes
A C D E and G are, on your instrument. Ideally, 2 octaves.

Most exercises include a keyboard diagram, and a staff, with the notes played.

This is pretty much all you'll need, graphically speaking.

This workshop focuses on the A minor/C Major Pentatoic scales. (Key of C)
Once you get through this one, and are reasonably proficient with ALL of the
exercises, you can go to the "All Keys" workshop. There is a link to that one
at the appropriate location. When you need it, it'll be there!

The All Keys workshop includes the key of C, so you can jump to that one
once you're getting through this workshop with no difficulties.

Am Pentatonic is A C D E G. C Major Pentatonic is C D E G A!

For the next 90 days, do this Workshop as your Daily Practice Session
WARM UP! After you finish the following exercises, move on to your
regular practice session. BUT DO THESE FIRST!

Stay on Part 1 daily until you can play each position smoothly! Not
until you can play them fast!
Speed will come in time! Part 2
is part of the process to be able to play them all faster!

Once you can play Part 1, all positions, then daily do Part 1, then
Part 2, both, daily!

NOTE: If you have time restaints, and cannot do the entire Part 2 daily,
do what you can each day. Start where you left off the previous session.

RECAP!

1: Start with Part 1. STAY ON PART 1 until you can play each of the
5 positions SMOOTHLY! THEN . . .

Part 1 becomes your DAILY WARMUP!!

2). Every session: WARM UP with Part 1. Then work your way through Part 2
as far as you can, depending on your time available.

If you don't have much time any specific day, JUST DO PART 1!

3) When you have been through Part 2 at least once completely, as in, you
have done each exercise at least one "cycle" - 3 times each until you
mess up - IF YOU WANT TO - go to Part 3! Or stay on Part 2 (ideally)
until you've been through it a few times, start to finish!

4). Once you start working on Part 3 - Daily, WARM UP with Part 1 - then
work on Part 3 as far as you can each day. Start where you left off the
previous session. Once you get through each exercise 3 cycles, at least
once, GO BACK TO PART 2! Do it completely. Then go back to Part 3!

Part 1 EVERY SESSION. Part 2 until you get through it all once
(or twice) Then Part 3. THEN ALTERNATE BETWEEN PART 2
AND PART 3! Do each one totally then go to the other! Alternately!

On any given day, (once you begin working on Part 2 or Part 3) you will
start with Part 1, WARM UP. Then either go to Part 2 or Part 3, which ever
you're working on at the time. When you've been through Part 2 or Part 3,
the next session, go to the other one!

Each session: Part 1 and Part 2, or Part 1 and Part 3!

Here we go!...
This is where you'll jump to if you click the link at the top edge of the page!

NOTE: Once you can do an exercise at the slower tempo, you can save time
by skipping over the slow repetitions. Just drag the time line to the right.
Listen for the beginning of the next rep, and go from there.
Am pentatonic position 1

PART 1: 5 Positions, separate

Objective: Be able to play all 5 tracks, to the end, without much,
if any difficulty! Smoothly, accurately!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ When you mess up, STOP! Start the track again. ~
~ Do this for each track, 3 times - JUST TILL YOU MESS UP! ~
~
DO NOT PRACTICE SLOPPY! Just go as far as you can, accurately!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Play the full scale up, then back down. Then repeat the same scale faster.
Count-In 1 2 1234 ~ Count-In between repeats 1234 Do them all like this!

Position 1: A C D E G A C D E G A C A ~ C A G E D C A G E D C A A
Am pentatonic position 1
Am pentatonic position 1

Go as far as you can accurately, then STOP, start over - 3 times
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Position 2: C D E G A C D E G A C D C ~ D C A G E D C A G E D C C
Am pentatonic position 2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Position 3: D E G A C D E G A C D E D ~ E D C A G E D C A G E D D

Am pentatonic position 3

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Position 4: E G A C D E G A C D E G E ~ G E D C A G E D C A G E E
Am pentatonic position 4
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Position 5: G A C D E G A C D E G A G ~ A G E D C A G E D C A G G
Am pentatonic position 5

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stay on Part 1 until you can play each position fairly easily. Not fast,
but until you can play each one cleanly, and smoothly. If any one (or more)
position are an issue, work on those more than 3 times each until you get
them down! Once you get to Part 2, you start each daily session doing Part 1.
Part 1 will become your daily WARM-UP!
You could stay on Part 1 for a long time, until you can play all tracks
through to the end. And you could become pretty good at these! In time!
BUT . . . that will ultimately take you longer! Part 2 is where you build
up speed! And develope dexterity and articulation. AND learn how to use
these scales without sounding like you're just playing scales for solos!
So move on to Part 2 once you can play all 5 positions smoothly.
This could take several sessions!
